Hoodoo & Harvest 🍁: Rituals for The Equinox

Hoodoo priestess before her stone and metal ancestral altar on the Autumnal Equinox by The AfroMystic

Happy Fall & Much Power to the Hoodoosaints and Keepers of Ancestral culture and tradition.

Today marks the day that those of us in the Northern hemisphere will move out of the endless daylight of the summertime into reverence for cooler, darker times. It also makes the beginning of a season of inter and intrapersonal balace: Libra Season.

Of all the seasons in the year, this is my personal favorite and tends to be the favorite of all kinds of spirit workers, witches, mediums, & N’gangas in the geographical “west” (it’s also my birthday season ;]).

Today we set our eyes, hearts and ritual works toward the upcoming season of Ancestral veneration. Today we express gratitude for any and all abundance we have.

Here are 3 small but meaningful, beginner friendly rituals that can help you usher in this time over the next few weeks. They are kept simple for a reason, but feel free to add, subtract, or modify these workings as you see fit.

1. Shedding & Calling

Ingredients: Florida water (or cleansing water of choice) + Small Black Candle + Small White Candle

Cleanse a small black candle with florida water and run it over your body from head to toe to remove resistant or stagnant energy. Light it outside at night and let it burn down completely.

The next morning, clean a small white candle with florida water and write on it what you are grateful for (dress in cascarilla if desired). Roll the candle over your body from toe to head this time to bring in more of what gives you gratitude. Burn it inside the house until it completes and watch what happens.

2. Prosperity Honey - Edible Herbs for Prosperity & Honey

Get a jar of good, inexpensive honey and write on it the amount of money you’d like to have saved and put away by September 2024. Add your prosperity herbs to a cold saucepan (dried cinnamon, clove, ginger, and basil are good starting places). Pour in your honey and turn heat to medium (heat slowly to avoid burning the honey). Stir well to fold the herbs into the honey, while repeating with conviction “Mo’ Money, Grow Money”. While stirring, I want you to feel into how you will feel when you have your $ stacked! Feel like you already have it.

When the honey begins to gently bubble, the work is done. Take off heat and either strain or keep the herbs in. Transfer back to jar and store in a dark place, wrapped in a green cloth. Take a teaspoon as often as desired to make you (and your tongue) magnetic to money, honey. If you begin to speak of lack and scarcity, bless your tongue with the honey to reverse that shit.

3. Roots, Leaves & Fruits Divination

Whether you use playing cards, tarot, dice, or any other kind of divination tools, here is a layout that will help determine what kind of stuff you got going on as the veil thins. The spread is below and can be best used with cards, dice, dominoes, runes, and other non-binary based divination tools.
