PALO SANTO
(meaning "Holy Wood")

Palo Santo (Bursera Graviolens) is a lovely smelling wood from south and central America. It's used similarly to how White Sage is used in North America -- It's burned, and the smoke cleanses the space and removes negative energies. It belongs to the "Burseracae" family, which is the same family as sacred Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copal (and all happen to be used for spiritual purposes).

I get my harvest from Afro-Peruvian growers in Peru who follow the tradition of never cutting Palo Santo sticks until the branches fall from the tree. They also replant the trees to ensure that the native plant survives. They've done this in response to the mad-western-overcraze over this herb; many growers are going willy nilly cutting all kind of trees in Peru to sell to white new-agers in the US alone. Ain't that a bitch? We ain't having that over here. Plus, the natives say that the wood must lay dead for 4-10 years before the magickal properites are awakened. This Palo here has been gone through that process.

These pieces are mad fragrant before even being burned! If you'd rather not burn them, they can be placed above doorways in the home to bless the space and add the. OR you can place them in drawers, cabinets, and in your car and it'll all smell like Palo Santo.

Burn it during ritual to cleanse the space. Traditionally the smoke was used to help ward off sickness, psychic attack, and negative energy.
